She wanted to apologize tell her she’d be fine, that they didn’t need to leave and that Devan would still be alive. It was only partly a lie, she needed her sister. They’d been together so long that when she left, she really did feel alone.

Erica didn’t pick up on the mood change, rather taking the opportunity to turn the volume up on the radio and lean back a little further as she eased on down the highway, singing along gently with the music. This was a perfect roadtrip in her mind —or as perfect as it could be for a couple of runaways.
